Where Are You?

I think maybe we're the worst bloggers of ALL time.  I can't believe we didn't blog at all this summer.  Next week we are back at school, what kind of students only blog during the school year?  This summer has gone by extremely fast.  I held a job at CDP --which I believe I mentioned before-- in the production department.  I was a Mac editor and it's pretty easy to explain what I did:  I converted video files, edited the baseball games, burned discs, packaged and shipped them to the teams.  Good times, I will probably go back there next summer.

In our spare time, Gela and I discovered the wonderfully amazing and talented ANDY GRAMMER.  And our best friend Mikey got to see him in concert at the Grove.  He got VIP passes, met Andy and got him to say "hi" to Gela and myself.  This will be in a future episode of Gay Today for all to see.
And oh yea, this kid will be seeing him on September 5th at the NYS Fair!!  Woot, woot!  I think I may actually die of excitement.  I cannot wait to meet him, unfortunately Gela cannot come with me-- but have no fear, there will be awesome presents for her (and Mikey)

Speaking of Mikey.  He's super famous now, he was on CNN's segment when they talked about Bert and Ernie being gay.  Check that out HERE

Other than that, my Beekman Heirloom Garden had a little success.  I grew my own radishes, spinach, tomatoes, carrots, beans, and squash.  There is still a possibility of green peppers and cucumbers, but my turnips did not do well at all.  And we got all our hay in our barn, with a few minor setbacks (weather, broken machinery, work schedules, etc)

I guess that's all for now, and do not fret.  School starts next week, so our blog will be back and better than ever.

It Gets Better

Besides it being our three month friend-iversary with Mikey, I thought there would be nothing to blog about today.  I also realized that most of our posts lately have covered issues of "pop culture" which is something that we said we'd only occasionally do.  We are going to get back into our roots and find things that NEED coverage because they aren't getting the coverage they deserve.  Then I saw this post on Yahoo! News this morning about a blog called "Born This Way" --it was like a gift from heaven.  This blog is "a photo/essay project for gay adults to submit childhood pictures and stories, reflecting memories & early beginnings of their innate LGBTQ selves".  To me this is a thing of beauty, because it proves that being gay is not a choice--looking at these young children can inspire everyone, including questioning gay teens.  Both Gela and I are straight, but believe in equality for all.  It was perfect that this was posted today, because it is an Action Hero day at our college.

I guess to continue with the theme of gay rights, I will discuss the Supreme Court ruling in the Westboro Baptist Church case.  Even though they are clearly spreading a message of hate, these people have free speech protection under the First Amendment.  "Speech is powerful. It can stir people to action, move them to tears of both joy and sorrow, and -- as it did here -- inflict great pain. On the facts before us, we cannot react to that pain by punishing the speaker," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority.  I completely agree with having the right to express themselves--but there should be clear limitations here.  Amazing that America can be called the "land of the free" when people have the RIGHT to protest at military funerals--yet homosexuals still don't have marriage equality, isn't it?

To learn more about the Westboro Baptist Church, check out this documentary by Louis Theroux:  The Most Hated Family in America .  As much as these people disturb me, I can't help the fact that I am FASCINATED by them.  Their lifestyle, their beliefs, their leader, their children.  It all just amazes me, how can people have so much hate inside of them?  The Westboro Baptist Church also happens to be the subject of my speech for my Intro to Communication class--in case anyone was interested.

For those people who are fans of marriage equality, you should check out the lovely Robbie & Allen.  They have entered the Ultimate Wedding Contest presented by Crate & Barrel.

Jealous of My Boogie

Honestly, I did not realize that it was Wednesday until I just updated my status saying the Modern Family is new tonight.  Gela and I are enjoying our "February Break" this week.  In our plethora of spare time, we created a fun dance montage for our friend Mikey, which can be seen above.

We have also been introduced to some new movies.  TCM is becoming a new favorite channel, bringing to our viewing pleasure:  The Bad Seed, Born Yesterday, The Goodbye Girl, and the end of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?  To sum up our favorite movie out of the list, we'll leave you with:  "You gimme those shoes, they're my shoes. Give them back to me, you give them back!"  Tuesday night we watched the horror classic, Candyman on Showtime.  That was a particularly disturbing movie, to say the least.

It's been very slow around here, but March should bring about good weather and trips to Sharon Springs.  And speaking of Sharon Springs, Farmer John and Jason have new products in their online store.  Items like the new silo door towel hanger (which I will be purchasing) and the hand braided rug.

Let's Go

Gela & DiCaprio present video blog #2--because our days have been less than thrilling.  This one is less edited because of the time crunch (aka we didn't record and edit this until late evening)  Hopefully you all enjoy seeing our faces.  As of now, we are uncertain about Saturday's blog--but we will try to come up with something, even if it's just a quick link, picture, or video.

Take a look at Logo's NewNowNext Awards website.  Vote for your favorites!  If you don't know about the Fabulous Beekman Boys or just want to learn more about them, check out their website.  Make sure to check out TJ Kelly's video about his NewNowNext Award nomination.  Remember to take a look at Mikey's Gay Today.  And for those of you interested in knowing more about the Llama Rescue and "Llama 99", click here!

The Creep

Here is the first of another new series, the Gela & DiCaprio vlog.  Enjoy.  Sorry for it being about 10 minutes long (AFTER EDITING)....we apparently are very chatty.

Our recommendations:  Mikey's Gay Today, Modern Family, The Kids Are All Right, and The Lonely Island.

Sometime Around Midnight

Gela and myself have had quite a busy week...and it's only Wednesday.  Yesterday we had to brave the weather to make it back to college, Gela almost didn't make it because of the terrible weather.  No.  I'm sorry, the weather was terri-blah!  (Thanks Mikey for your word) Today was the first day of college classes.  Gela's schedule is comprised of mainly history courses, while my own schedule is an explosion of mass communication courses.  This is actually the first moment of relaxation we've had--and we realized we had no plans for a blog.  I apologize immensely for the lack of luster and excitement.

This is the first in our series of our random blogs.  Earlier today we looked at some of the "worst dressed" from the Golden Globes *cough* Tilda Swinton *cough* though there are some that argue the absolute WORST was Julianne Moore.

We are currently catching up on some Patti Luphone videos on YouTube--that's Michael Buckley's phone channel.  We watched Zombieland (which is hilarious by the way) and are going to be having a marathon of Gay Today videos.  We may even get super crazy and watch The Social Network.  Clearly...we are not typical college kids.  We are such rebels, we haven't even bought our books yet.  That's one of the many tasks scheduled for tomorrow.  I ALMOST FORGOT.  We are going out to Subway tomorrow for lunch.  This is a huge deal because we only eat at ONE dining hall.

Hope you enjoyed this little update....thanks to all of our followers.  Hopefully we will have more to talk about in our Saturday blog.
