All Gone to Hell

Ohhhh my.  There has been quite a significant amount of time since our last blog.  And we apologize.  We started back at school.  This semester has been crazy for this kid.  I have a multi camera production class, which means I'm learning the basics of live television editing.  A mass media and culture class, in which I spend a majority of my time discussing The Fabulous Beekman Boys.  An environmental literature class, just for fun.  A theatre appreciation course, which I am rocking.  And finally a writing for radio, television, and film class.  I just finished a PSA for that class today.
As for Gela, she has also been busy.  She has a class on Wednesday nights that is two and a half hours long.  UGH.

Of our most recent adventures, we have met comedian Lee Camp and former Full House star, Dave Coulier.  Both did shows at our campus.  They were amazingly lovely people and super fun to talk to.

Ummm.  We have acquired a bunch of new friends this semester, because *SHOCKER* we are actually DOING things.  We went to a Drag Ball, hosted by Open Minded Unity (the gay-straight alliance on campus)  And we met an amazing group of people.  Also, we have met a vlogger and you all should check out his channel:  Will's Doing It!

Let It Snow

First of all, if you remember from last week, Gela and I went to the opera.  And let me just tell you The Marriage of Figaro was  BRILLIANT.  It was so good that we decided to go twice, the second day was even a Thursday (which is a huge deal since that is our night for the best television shows).  My life got a little bit better because I had a package arrive last week:
The Season 1 DVD of The  Fabulous Beekman Boys!
As we pondered about what to cover today, Gela and I are enjoyed a snack comprised of grapes and cucumbers--which is way more delicious than it sounds.  Our Saturday blog said that it was almost Spring, though if you looked out our window you'd never guess it.  Yes, as shocking as it is, Upstate New York is experiencing another fun day with snow showers.

This is what has happened so far this week:

Remember The Name!

Before I begin the blog, I would like to apologize for it being a day late. I had some homework to do and did not have time to write the blog.

Now, we would like to tell you NOT to forget about the NewNowNext Awards! Voting is still going, it closes March 4th. The Fabulous Beekman Boys, Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell, were nominated for “Most Addictive Reality Star.”

If you don’t know who they are, you can find out about them at Planet Green’s website and Beekman 1802. You can tweet for the boys using #RealityBoys or vote on the page. Another one you should vote for is TJ Kelly using #IndulgeTJ.

TJ was nominated for “Best New Indulgence” and he’s got some strong competition. You can find out about TJ and the show he’s on, The A-List: New York, at Logo TV. TJ made a great video about his award nomination that you can watch here.

Don't You Know Who I Think I Am?

Hey everyone, I'm taking the same route that Gela did on Saturday.  In case anyone was interested in knowing more about the bloggers, this is the place to get the low down.

This kid was born and raised in a small town, the same town that Gela grew up in.  We met in the third grade and have been friends ever since.  In school I wasn't much of a sports kid or an after school activities kid--I liked getting good grades and being creative.  That's why I joined yearbook in my senior year and graduated in the top 10 of my class.  Random thought-- I love animals, like my American Bulldog/Pitbull mix Charlie!  I have a lot of critters ranging from horses to rabbits.

For fun, I shoot and edit "movies" with my friends.  They really aren't movies with plots, just like clips shows, music videos, and vlogs.  I also dabble and experiment with Photoshop.  I am also very big into technology.  I can't live without my Blackberry, camera, Facebook, or Skype.  And as we've mentioned before, Gela and I spend much of our free time promoting The Fabulous Beekman Boys.  A career in the entertainment world is definitely in my future--which is why I am spending my time studying in the field of mass communication.

iTunes is a must have when you're a college kid.  A random mix of music is even better, like my library including artists like Eminem, The Infamous Stringdusters, Green Day, Mumford & Sons, The Script, Katy Perry, Linkin Park and yes even the Glee cast.  A ridiculous DVD collection is also important, both movies and television shows:  The Hangover, Ugly Betty, The Office, Grey's Anatomy, The Last Song, The Big Bang Theory, The A-Team, and The Replacements.

Call me old fashioned, but I think that the Kindle is a dumb invention.  And I love technology.  Unfortunately, I also love books.  Stephen King dominates my book shelf, followed closely by Nicholas Sparks.  I have been captivated by many autobiographies, including The Bucolic Plague (Josh Kilmer-Purcell) and Lucky Man (Michael J. Fox)

Okay...if anyone is still reading, Gela and I promise REAL blogs about IMPORTANT things in the upcoming weeks.  Our last few blogs have been shallow and very oriented around pop culture, but can you blame us?  It is awards season after all....

Born Like This

DiCaprio and I have decided to tell you a little about ourselves. I'm not sure what all you would like to know but I'll cover as much as I can. If there's anything else you would like to know just comment and I'll get back to you.

I live in a small town where the girls are just as tough as the guys :)
My hobbies include art, singing, swimming, cooking/baking (yes they are two different things), reading, napping, watching movies/anime/tv shows/documentaries/videos, dancing, scrapbooking, and making videos with my friends.

Some of my favorite shows are:
  • The Fabulous Beekman Boys on Planet Green
  • The Big Bang Theory
  • RuPaul's Drag Race on Logo TV
  • Chuck
  • Hoarders
  • Grey's Anatomy
Movies:
  • The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
  • The A-Team
  • Anything Disney
  • Alice (from Syfy)
  • No Impact Man
  • Anything by Hayao Miyazaki
  • Leap Year
  • The Hangover
  • Anything by Tim Burton
My favorite actors are Liam Neeson, Sharlto Copley, Gerard Butler, Steve Valentine, and Dana Carvey. Favorite actresses are Sandra Bullock, Betty White, Tina Fey, Sandra Oh, Julie Andrews, and Helena Bohnam Carter.

I eat everything (especially if it's a dessert) and I love trying new recipes! My next attempt will be a Cheese Souffle using Beekman BLAAK cheese.

I read everything. I love fairy tales and biographies most though. Right now I am reading "Lucky Man" by Michael J. Fox.

I think that is enough for a taste of who I am. Seriously though, if there is anything else you would like to know just ask :)

Let's Go

Gela & DiCaprio present video blog #2--because our days have been less than thrilling.  This one is less edited because of the time crunch (aka we didn't record and edit this until late evening)  Hopefully you all enjoy seeing our faces.  As of now, we are uncertain about Saturday's blog--but we will try to come up with something, even if it's just a quick link, picture, or video.

Take a look at Logo's NewNowNext Awards website.  Vote for your favorites!  If you don't know about the Fabulous Beekman Boys or just want to learn more about them, check out their website.  Make sure to check out TJ Kelly's video about his NewNowNext Award nomination.  Remember to take a look at Mikey's Gay Today.  And for those of you interested in knowing more about the Llama Rescue and "Llama 99", click here!

People of the Sun

Guess what arrived this week...

The seeds for the Williams-Sonoma "Grow As You Go" project. Both, DiCaprio and myself will be participating. The goal is to create the largest "community" garden. People all over will be growing 10 heirloom vegetables. There's even a chance to win prizes from Beekman 1802 and Williams-Sonoma!

Anyone that joins the project will recieve bi-weekly e-mails with a checklist of step-by-step directions. This will help us less experienced gardeners to do well. Of course, everyone is placed in a growing zone and the e-mails will apply to your zone. Click here to find out your zone.

Gardeners can also chat with each other and ask questions through the "Garden Forum" on the Beekman 1802 website!

Let's make this project a success, purchase your seeds online and start planning your garden :)

Image of the Invisible

A good friend of ours, Jason Paden, decided to venture into unknown territory:  starting a website and an online store.  He and his partner, John Hall, live in the cozy little town of Sharon Springs, NY.  They work on the Beekman farm, taking care of the herd of goats and the other animals--like Polka Spot the llama.

Their website features blogs by both men, which gives an inside look to life on the Beekman farm.  Check out Jason's blog and John's blog.  A video section (still under construction) will display a collection of home movies, edited by Jason.  The "fun page" has a few cute games for kids to play.  It also has a cute video story about Misty the Goat--Jason assures us that there will be more video stories on the way.  There is even a page of the site on which you can buy goats from John, currently there are thirteen for sale.

Jason and John love to create and both are extremely talented artists.  Jason is more of a traditional artist with his sculptures and photography, all of his art is inspired by life at the Beekman.  John, on the other hand, crochets beautiful scarves and blankets.  Their store also features the work of John's sister and mother--handmade quilts.

Gela and I have both bought items from the store--the same item actually.  Jason, knowing how much people love Polka Spot, decided to make a Polka Spot sculpture (below).  Each is beautifully handcrafted--no two are alike.  Each is signed and numbered.  Currently there are none for sale in the store because John and Jason are preparing the barn so it is ready to house the baby goats--the first group is due in February.

Take A Chance On Me!!!

On an ordinary day, Gela and DiCaprio were checking Facebook. At this fateful time Brent Ridge posted a link to a video. The video was a review of The Fabulous Beekman Boys Holiday Special, posted by Mikey Trahant. It is a hilarious group of people in LA and their reactions while watching. The Boys loved this video so much that they "liked" the video and shared it with everyone. After watching the video, DiCaprio commented about how similar the group's experience of watching the special was to her own. Gela and DiCaprio became obsessed with Mikey's YouTube show: Mikey's Gay Today. At the time, there were around 269 videos (which they finished in about 3 days). There was a YouTube message and friend request sent, followed by Facebook friend requests to a Mr. Mikey Trahant from Gela and DiCaprio. He immediately responded to DiCaprio with "I smell a long friendship ahead of us! I call shotgun on the Beekmans" on Dec. 9 2010. Mikey and the girls instantly became Best Friends Forever! Within days they had nicknames, Michaelangelo, Gela and DiCaprio, and they Skyped almost daily.
Mikey Trahant's current dream is to be "Gaymous" for his YouTube show and to be America's Favorite Gay. The videos are real, entertaining, and at times, full of drama. Mikey's show follows his everyday life and his adventures around LA. He frequently discusses hot guys, searching for a job, and being the "crypt keeper of West Hollywood". He also has "Gaymous Guest Stars" including: Triple Gay, Diva P, KittenKay Sera, the Cranky Cuban, Hula Girl, the Angel of Death, Gaysian, and, of course, America's favorite mom, Cookie! While, most of his videos bring a lot of laughs, he does get serious at times. Our favorite video happens to be his first. He tells a story about when he was a child in Vermont and his friend, Mike Clough, came for a visit. They had a debate as to whether or not a field across the street contained poison ivy. Watch the video here for the outcome. We believe that you should like, favorite, and subscribe to Mikey's videos. You can also find Mikey's videos on Funny or Die. And become a fan on Facebook.

We will have known Mikey for a month tomorrow. We love Mikey and the fact that he is an enigma.

For The First Time....

2010 was a huge year for these two college kids.  The year started pretty slow, until June rolled around and brought The Fabulous Beekman Boys into our lives.  We would love to give an entire story about them, but we want you to check them out on your own at their website, Beekman1802.  While watching their lives pass by on our TV screens, we came to the conclusion that we HAD to meet them--which worked out wonderfully because they only live an hour away and were hosting the second annual Harvest Festival.  Seeing them in person was unbelievable, we were actually speechless--which NEVER happens.  It was refreshing to see that these guys are real ... nothing is played up for the cameras.  You just want to "put Brent in your pocket" and Josh is just "full of sass" ;)  After a search of Facebook, we found that there was NO fan page for the Beekman Boys fans (other than their official page)  That was when Beek Geeks was born--with the help of the talented Anthony.  At the time we had no idea that the popularity of Beek Geeks would grow to become such a big part of the Beekman World and make us part of the Sharon Springs community.  We are now frequent visitors to Sharon Springs, making sure to visit Doug & Garth at the American Hotel for brunch.  We even got invited to participate in the first annual Victorian Celebration.

Through The Boys and our fan page we were introduced to a variety of talented and interesting people--from coast to coast.  But those stories can wait...

For 2011 we decided that part of our New Year's Resolution would be to bring attention to people, places, events, etc that deserve more recognition than they are currently receiving.  And knowing us there will also be the occasional post about more popular subjects.
